About

At Monroe Street Animal Hospital, veterinary care is more than medicine. It’s about people, pets, and the community we share. Our team is passionate about providing personalized, compassionate care that feels less like a trip to the vet and more like visiting a trusted neighbor.

Monroe Street Story

Our Story

Before opening our doors, we searched for more than a year to find the right place to bring our vision to life. What we discovered was more than a building. It was a piece of Mandeville’s history.

Originally built in 1910 as a private residence, the property has been lovingly added to and adapted for over a century. Today, it is listed on the historic register. We worked hand-in-hand with the local historic commission to honor its past while carefully transforming it into a modern veterinary hospital.

The process has been one of constant improvement. From benches built specifically for our space to family antiques and artwork donated from our own team members’ homes, every detail has been thoughtfully chosen to make pets and people feel welcome. Even our clinic cats (like Cheese, our unofficial mascot) add to the feeling that this is a home as much as it is a hospital.

Our Promise

When you walk through our doors, you’ll find a team that listens, a space that feels like home, and care that’s tailored to your pet, not a one-size-fits-all approach. Whether you’re visiting for preventive wellness, help managing chronic illness, or compassionate end-of-life care, we’re here to guide you with kindness, knowledge, and heart.

Paige Massey, DVM
Paige Massey, DVM
Paige Massey, DVM
Veterinarian

Dr. Paige is a Southshore native and graduate of Ecole Classique. She double majored in Anthropology and Biology at Ole Miss before going into Veterinary Medicine at LSU. While at LSU, she particularly enjoyed working as a laboratory instructor for undergraduate histopathology students. Dr. Paige started her career in Metairie before moving north in 2002.
After working as an associate in several other practices, she decided it was time to have a hospital of her own and teamed up with Dr. Alissa to found Monroe Street Animal Hospital. Business ownership must run in the blood, as she learned the principles of management from her parents, who started Massey’s Sporting Goods.
Dr. Paige loves all aspects of small animal medicine and has a particular interest in soft tissue surgery. She continues to work part-time at the St. Bernard Animal Shelter, where she is their primary surgeon.
When she steps away from the hospital, she lives in Covington with her husband and teenage daughter. Their family also includes a sweet Boxer, three precocious cats, a friendly lizard, and a very chill Betta fish.

Veterinarian

Dr. Alissa is almost a Mandeville native, having moved here in 1980. She graduated from Mandeville High to attend MIT, where she studied Brain and Cognitive Science. She spent several years as a high school Science teacher before earning her DVM at LSU. Dr. Alissa was in the middle of her senior clinical rotations when Hurricane Katrina hit and she considers the aftermath of the storm to have been the best part of her education. She met Dr. Paige when they worked together at another practice; they realized that they made a good team and decided to take the leap and start a hospital of their own. The fact that her family still lives a few blocks away is a happy bonus. She has always been interested in the emotional aspects of pet ownership and was able to take advantage of the COVID lockdown to earn her certification in the Human Animal Bond. She does sometimes miss her time as a teacher and enjoyed several years as an adjunct college instructor for a Veterinary Technology program. In her free time, she prefers to spend time with her family, their Heeler mixes, and very spoiled cats.

Practice Manager

Samantha is a Madisonville native who grew up in Mandeville and graduated from MHS and studied Biological Engineering at LSU. Since moving back home she has worked in management roles, always aiming to provide the best possible customer service. She now heads the desk at Monroe Street and brings her experience as well as her love for animals to the table. Away from work Samantha is a mother to three wild kids, two dogs, and four cats. She spends most of her free time gardening and caring for her large orchid collection. And as if that wasn’t enough to keep her busy, she is also a passionate fiber artist. She is the proud owner of Bayou Lily Handwoven and loves to share her creations with the public. Along with weaving, she also knits, sews, and has been dabbling in spinning her own yarn.

Veterinary Technician

Rachel, who is originally from Chalmette, moved to Mandeville with her family in the early ’90s. She attended OLL, MJH, and MHS, so Monroe Street is part of her old stomping grounds. She studied Veterinary Technology at Delgado and has extensive experience in Emergency Medicine, Ophthalmology, and practice management. Rachel is now teaching full-time for Delgado Community College’s Veterinary Technology program and working at Monroe Street on alternate weekends. In her down time, Rachel enjoys volunteering with her church and spending time at the lakefront. She now lives in Covington with her wonderful, supportive husband of 20 years and their son and daughter. While the family has a variety of animals, Rachel considers herself a crazy cat lady.

Veterinary Technician

As a child, Ashley decided to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. She grew up in Mandeville and attended Fontainebleau High School, making her our only Bulldog. Later, she was part of the first graduating class from Delgado’s Veterinary Technician Program. Over the course of her career, she has primarily worked in specialty practice, with a focus on Internal Medicine. She has a particular fondness for forensic shows, probably because of her Medicine background. She also likes to do nail art, a nice creative hobby to balance out all those analytic tendencies. Ashley and her daughter have a beautiful cat named Loki, who lives up to his mischievous name.

Veterinary Technician

Tiffany is an honorary southerner — she was born in Illinois, but moved to Picayune, Mississippi when she was seven. She is a graduate of Vanguard College of Cosmetology and has been a licensed cosmetologist since 2007. She keeps a devoted clientele and travels to install and maintain dreadlocks. We are taking full advantage of her skill set! When isn’t grooming, she is assisting the doctors and filling in at the desk.

In her free time, Tiffany dotes on her five hairless cats and Gerkin the gecko. She has a variety of interests, including tattoos, taxidermy, and related oddities. She is our resident vegan.

Veterinary Technician

Sadly, we have no baby pictures of Carol. (Thanks, Katrina.) Adult Carol is at Monroe Street on Fridays, as she likes to spend what would otherwise be her day off at her “happy place”. She’s easy to spot with her big laugh and tendency toward practical jokes. Carol has worked in veterinary practices for years, taking the traditional path from the kennel to the exam room, and now assists in surgery and client care. She is good with all animals, but has a particular knack for rescuing cats.

Veterinary Technician

Jennifer has been working with animal since 1994. She started as a groomer then transitioned into medicine shortly afterward. Her wide range of experience and attention to detail make her a real asset to our team: on a daily basis, she can be found digging into a patient’s record to familiarize herself with a case, providing patient care, and helping to maintain the lab equipment. Outside of work, Jenn is a wife and mom, with three children at home and an adult daughter who is an Army veteran. She is an avid horse rider.

Arah is the Taysom Hill of the Monroe Street team – we can plug her in almost anywhere. She considered human medicine first, even spending some time in nursing school, but quickly realized pet care was her true calling. She started as a groomer in 2013, then transitioned to working in a veterinary medicine in 2019. She had experience in a big box corporate setting, private general practice, and a specialty ER setting before coming to join us. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter and their collection of Husky and Husky-adjacent dogs. She is an avid crafter, whose current passion is candle making.

Jess is our resident farm girl. She tried nursing school but realized that she belonged in the vet world. Jess started as a kennel tech in 2002, and worked her way up to the ICU at a referral hospital. She is a lifelong Louisiana resident but her heart belongs to the west; she is often planning trips to Montana, Colorado, and the like. In her spare time, you can find her rescuing, breeding, and training American Quarter Horses. She also lives with a variety of dogs, cats, and chickens. She has a special talent for photography.

We’re always happy to help.

Yes. We work with Cherry, and Care Credit to offer payment plans.

Because heartworm preventives are prescription medications, pets need a current exam and annual heartworm test before refills. This keeps your pet safe and ensures the medication will work as intended.

Yes! Parasites are active all year in our warm, humid climate. That’s why we strongly recommend keeping pets on prevention every month, all year long.

Yes! We offer Snout Wellness Plans designed to spread out the cost of preventive care. These plans make it easier to keep up with exams, vaccines, and testing throughout the year.

In many cases, yes. Rechecks allow us to confirm that your pet’s treatment plan is helping, adjust doses as weight or health changes, and catch side effects early. They also help prevent masking bigger problems with medications that “quiet” symptoms. Rechecks keep your pet’s care on track and ensure prescriptions remain safe, legal, and appropriate. Helpful tip: Bring notes about appetite, drinking, bathroom habits, itch or pain scores, pill bottles, and even short videos when you come in. These details help us tailor your pet’s care.
